Canadian citizens in certain professions can work in the United States on TN status under the USMCA trade agreement. Registered nurses, physical and occupational therapists, and several other healthcare professions are on the list.
What you usually need
- Canadian citizenship (permanent residents of Canada are not eligible for TN).
- A written job offer from a US employer describing the role.
- Proof of your qualifications, such as your degree and licence.
- For registered nurses and some other healthcare roles, a VisaScreen certificate and a licence (or eligibility for one) in the state where you will work.
How it works
Canadians normally apply for TN status at a US port of entry or a pre-clearance location, by presenting their documents to a US Customs and Border Protection officer. TN status is granted for up to three years and can be renewed.
Roles open to Canadians
Some of our current roles say they accept candidates on TN status. Look for the visa route tag on the job board, or send a general application and a recruiter will match you.
